71Five Volunteers Coordinator

Misty Duke first came to Youth 71Five Ministries (formerly Rogue Valley YFC) as an intern with the Juvenile Justice Ministries (now 71Five Justice) in 2002. While attending SOU to pursue psychology as her field of study, she heard the call of God for full-time ministry instead. She came enthusiastically knowing that the love of Christ can transform lives and was eager to connect with young people who were deemed the “throwaways” of society. In fact, the more troubled the youth was, the more she loved them! She developed many mentoring relationships with girls that she met in the Jackson Co. juvenile detention center, in foster care, and in the youth shelter. Once “her girls” were transferred to other facilities around the state she stayed in contact in every way she could, even making several trips to visit in youth prisons and treatments homes.
Over the years she built her ministry career and became the Director of 71Five Justice. Speaking at churches, recruiting the body of Christ to become involved in kid’s lives as mentors, spending time with kids in the juvenile detention center, and then eventually helped to develop the training curriculum for new mentors coming into the program. Somehow, she also found time to travel to West Africa on mission trips – her lifelong dream! She lead the mission teams on her final two trips and each time had one girl as a team member that she had mentored. Then the inevitable happened. She got married and moved away! However, it was all part of God’s plan. Misty and her husband Dave married in 2009. They have a daughter born in 2011 and a son who came along in 2018. After a couple of years away they moved back to the Rogue Valley.
Misty & Dave are avid Seattle Mariner baseball fans. In fact, their ideal anniversary date includes going to the batting cages followed by eating pizza while watching a Mariner’s game! Misty kept busy with the mom life by investing her time staying at home to raise and homeschool her daughter. About a year ago the call to ministry outside the home was too great and the Lord opened the door for her to work part-time at Redemption Ridge. It was here that she was able to serve as a Care Specialist for girls ages 11-17 who were survivors of human trafficking. Misty continues to volunteer at Redemption Ridge… it seems she just can’t walk away from “her girls”.
In the spring of 2018, after nearly a decade away and by God’s provision, Misty returned to Youth 71Five Ministries to become the 71Five Mentors Director and in 2019 became the 71Five Volunteers Coordinator. With more experience and an equal amount of enthusiasm, she is eager to lead with the heart of a servant.
